Course Content

This professional development course invites Suzuki and traditional violin teachers to explore the Music & Movement program in depth. The program is a comprehensive collection of activities designed to enrich violin instruction for young beginners through movement, singing, listening, rhythm work, and creative musical experiences.

Participants will discover more than 100 practical activities for both individual and group lessons. Based primarily on Dr. Suzuki’s repertoire and educational philosophy, these activities support the musical, technical, physical, and personal development of young children while creating joyful and engaging learning experiences.

Areas of Focus

The course presents practical exercises and teaching strategies that help children develop:

  • familiarity with the teaching repertoire through active listening and musical participation
  • rhythm, pulse, intonation awareness, and inner hearing through singing and movement games
  • correct violin posture and natural violinistic movements
  • gross and fine motor coordination essential for successful violin playing
  • concentration, observation skills, discipline, and perseverance
  • motivation, creativity, confidence, and joyful engagement in the learning process

Educational Philosophy

The central goal of the program is to help children develop a deep and personal relationship with music. Through listening, moving, singing, feeling, and playing, young students build a strong emotional connection to music while simultaneously establishing the foundations for successful violin study.

Music & Movement provides a rich collection of teaching ideas that complement both Suzuki and traditional violin instruction. Many of the concepts explored in this course are rarely addressed in conventional teacher-training programs and offer valuable additional tools for working successfully with young beginners.

Course Materials

All participants receive extensive course materials, including:

  • three complete course recordings (90 minutes each)
  • additional short videos featuring exercises and practical teaching ideas
  • printable sheet music and activity materials
  • audio files suitable for both online and in-person lessons
  • supplementary teaching resources for immediate classroom application

This course offers practical, inspiring, and immediately applicable strategies that help teachers create engaging, effective, and musically rich learning environments for young violinists in both individual and group settings.
